Prescription Pill Abuse

The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University reports that over 15 million people within the U.S. abuse prescription drugs. If this figure is correct, more people are addicted to prescription drugs than heroin, meth and cocaine combined. While some prescription pain medications can be more addictive than others, all of them come with some risk of dependency. These medications include, but are not limited to:

Signs of Prescription Pill Abuse

§ Complaining of vague symptoms to get more medication

§ Lack of interest in treatment options other than medications

§ Mood changes and mood swings

§ Past history of drug addiction

§ Using more than the recommended dose or dosage frequency of the medication

§ Attempting to purchase prescriptions on-line

§ Defensiveness when questioned about pill usage

§ Using pills that are prescribed for others

§ Seeing several doctors and/or pharmacies to get more pills

Abusing Prescription Drugs can be harmful and even
fatal and is just as illegal as taking street drugs.
